Cavalry

Cavalry in the Roman military referred to soldiers who fought on horseback. These units were highly mobile and used for scouting, skirmishing, and as shock troops during battles. The Roman cavalry was an essential component of the legions, providing speed and flexibility that infantry units lacked.

While the Roman legions were primarily composed of heavy infantry, the cavalry played a critical role in flanking maneuvers and pursuing fleeing enemies.

The Ala Batavorum, a unit of auxiliary cavalry recruited from the Batavi tribe, was renowned for its effectiveness and served in various campaigns across the Roman Empire.
