A discipline is a branch of knowledge or field of study characterized by specific methods, terminology, and approaches. Each discipline has its own set of tools and frameworks for understanding its subject matter.

History, as a discipline, involves the critical analysis of past events, often through primary sources and an understanding of historiography. Disciplines can also overlap, leading to interdisciplinary studies, where methods from one discipline are applied to another.

Archaeology is a discipline closely related to history, focusing on the study of human activity through physical remains.
