An orator is a skilled public speaker, highly valued in Roman society. Oratory was essential for political, legal, and social success in ancient Rome. Orators used rhetoric, persuasive language, and dramatic delivery to sway public opinion, argue in court, or lead political assemblies.

Cicero, one of Rome’s greatest orators, was known for his powerful speeches in the Senate and law courts. His oratory skill helped him rise to prominence as a lawyer and statesman. His speeches, like those against Catiline, demonstrated his ability to use rhetoric to influence Roman politics.
